Krasnodar and Sochi hit top five cities of Russia in terms of living standards

Such data were published in the top list of 100 largest cities of the country prepared by Saint-Petersburg Spatial Planning Institute "Urbanica" in conjunction with the Union of Russian Architects.

According to the online newspaper "RBC. Krasnodar Region", surveyors analyzed the cities with the population of more than 175 thousand people. The authors evaluated the living standards in the cities based upon multiple criteria.

In particular, the following indicators were taken into account: housing per capita, availability of the state-of-the-art consumption formats, urban traffic level, crime rate, external transport accessibility, level of provision of urban amenities and level of environmental pollution. Furthermore, the cost of living was recognized too. It was estimated by such criteria as an opportunity of purchasing own dwelling, leasing a one-room flat, consumption spending level, expenses for housing and public utilities and a purchasing power.

Eventually, Krasnodar holds the second notch among the most comfortable, in terms of the living standards, cities, while Sochi ranks fifth. As noted by the online newspaper, before the Olympics 2014 the popular resort city ranked as low as 21st in a similar survey.
